European clubs are concluding their Pre-season engagements as the much anticipated 2016/17 football season kicks-off this weekend.
Although some Football leagues kicked-off this last weekend, the English Premier League will kick-start this weekend.
Four EPL side were in action yesterday and here are the 5 things we learnt from their matches;
Arsenal beat Manchester City, Chelsea win, Liverpool lose, Southampton win
- Arsenal Defeated Manchester City
Arsenal came from behind to beat Manchester City 3-2 in Gothenburg in their final pre-season friendly.
Raheem Sterling scored the opener, but Alex Iwobi, Theo Walcott and Chuba Akpom scored for the Gunners before Kelechi Iheanacho’s consolation.
- Arsenal Lost Garbriel To Injury Yesterday
Arsenal defender Gabriel went off on a stretcher with an ankle injury late on and will most likely not start the season with Arsenal.
- Chelsea Also Lost Terry To Injury
Chelsea lost John Terry to injury in a 4-2 win over Werder Bremen and this will be a big blow to new Manager, Antonio Conte as he counts on Terry’s experience to rebuild the London club that finished 10th in the league last season.
- Liverpool Lost Heavily To Mainz
Liverpool lost 4-0 to Mainz, a day after beating Barcelona by that score.
The Reds named a slightly weakened team against one of manager Jurgen Klopp’s old clubs, although Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, Adam Lallana and Divock Origi all started.
- Southampton Was Also In Action
Southampton beat Athletic Bilbao 1-0 at St Mary’s, with Shane Long scoring the only goal. This will be a big boost for the Saints as they head to a new season full of confidence.
