At least 12 people were reportedly killed when suspected Fulani gunmen attacked Kwata community in Zawan district of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack which occurred in the early hours of Monday left many other residents of the area with varied degree of injuries, reports Daily Post.
The Special Task Force (STF) in charge of security in Plateau, Monday, confirmed the killings.
Capt. Ikedichi Iweha, STF Spokesperson, told NAN in Jos that several others were injured in the attack.
Iweha said that the STF personnel rushed to the area of the attack when it was alerted but the perpetrators had disappeared.
“By the time we arrived there, the attackers had carried out their heinous act and left; we just evacuated the injured and the dead and rushed them to Plateau Hospital, where health officials confirmed 12 persons dead.
“Normalcy has since returned as security agencies have cordoned off the area,” Iweha said.
Meanwhile, a notorious cattle rustler, identified as Adamu Belo, nick-named Adede, has been arrested and paraded by the Kebbi State Police Command.
Adede who was apprehended by a patrol team of the command, apart from being a notorious criminal who specialises in cattle rustling, also reportedly engaged in armed robbery and kidnappings in and around the Bagudo Local Government Area of the state.
Parading Adede at the Command’s headquarters in Birnin Kebbi alongside four other suspected criminals that have reportedly been terrorising the state on armed robbery, kidnapping, theft and cattle rustling, the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Yakubu Jibrin, said significant success had been recorded within the short time he arrived at the Command.
