Aisha Buhari Urges Governors With IDPs To Pay Attention To Malnourished Infants And Children In The Camps

Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, has appealed to the Governors of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States, to act swiftly about the nutritional status of babies and children in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in their states.

She made the call following the death of malnourished twin babies in Zaria on Friday, via a statement from her office.

“She is grieved as a mother that children could be going through such appalling conditions in her country.”

According to Daily Trust, the dead twins and their mother were displaced by Boko Haram and had been at an IDPs camp in Yola, Adamawa state. The mother recently brought them to her relatives in Zaria, Kaduna state who in turn took them to hospital, before they eventually died.

“Mrs Buhari realizes that malnutrition rates for children are at a serious level in these camps, where large number of people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgency are gathered,” it said.‎

She noted that “even under normal circumstances children have specialized nutritional needs. This in effect underscores the importance of highly specialized nutritional support for this category of children.”

Mrs Buhari also commended Akinwunmi  Ambode, Governor of Lagos State for donating N150 million to the governments of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states to assist them in the rehabilitation of people displaced by Boko Haram.
