How To Apply For The FG’s PEBEC Hackathon And Win Over N1m in Prize Money [OPEN]



In order to further improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria, the Federal Government has introduced it’s first PEBECHack competition.

PEBEC stands for the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, an initiative of President Muhammadu Buhari, which was set up in August 2016 to implement reforms that will enable small and medium-sized businesses in Nigeria thrive and also improve Nigeria’s position in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index.

This year’s PEBCHack aims to employ smart technological solutions to address some of the issues faced by the council. This hackathon is focused on creating a tool that will foster transparency and accountability among key Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).


According to Dr Jumoke Oduwole, coordinator of the Enabling Business Environment, “the competing teams would develop a service management solution that will allow citizens monitor, provide feedback, report, make complaints, and ‘blow-a-whistle’ about the quality of service received from key Federal Government Doing Business MDAs or at strategic locations such as airports, seaports and land borders.”

Up to N1.5 million in cash prizes will be won, with several other in-kind prizes also up for grabs.

The team that comes First in the competition will get a cash prize of N1,000, 000. The second team will walk away with N300,000, while the Second Runner Up will win N200,000.

Apart from the monetary gifts, all three teams will also be awarded a Microsoft’s Bizspark, and a start-up stand at Techplus conference in July, that will avail them the opportunity to meet and interact with potential investors.


Interested #PEBECHack participants can register as individuals or teams on Registration ends Tuesday June 6, 2017. The Hackathon itself will hold over two days on June 23 and 24, 2017 in Lagos.

The PEBCHack competition is open to both individuals and a team of four with expertise in any of these areas; Front-end development, back-end development, reporting/journalism, animation, videography, social media, academic, product development, project management and marketing/ advertisement
