A human rights group, the Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) has called for the live coverage of the proceedings on the floor of the Osun State House of Assembly during the impeachment proceedings against the State governor, Mr Ruaf Adesoji Aregbesola and his deputy, Mrs Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori, saying that the live coverage of the impeachment proceedings would bring fairness, justice and transparency to the issue of national importance.
The Rights group also insisted that Mr. Aregbesola and Mrs. Laoye-Tomori have been deserved to be impeached for committing many impeachable offences ranging from changing of Osun State to State of Osun, embezzlement, procurement of Helicopter without due process from State Assembly, embarking on expenditure without budgetary provision, among other offences and mis-management of the resources accrued to the State from federation account which made the State unable to perform its obligations to the citizenries.
According to the statement issued and signed by the Executive Chairman of the group, Comrade Adeniyi, Alimi Sulaiman which a copy was made to newsmen in Osogbo, the State capital yesterday, insisted on the live coverage of the Assembly proceedings on DSTV stations, said that the call became imperative for fair hearing of the parties involved.
Comrade Adeniyi reiterated the total and strong support of the people of the State to the petition authored by the Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede to State House of Assembly, calling for impeachment of State governor and his deputy for saying that Osun State financial crisis was beyond their mandate and control which made them unable to pay the salaries of its workforce for period of eight(8) to eleven(11) months.
CHRSJ boss therefore called on the well-meaning Nigerians, particularly, Osun indigenes, to pray for the protection of the courageous woman who stood up against all odds to speak the mind of Osun people, against the tyranny Rauf Aregbesola’s government which ravaging the State presently, faulted the call by the political human rights groups in the State that asking National Judicial Council(NJC) to sanction Justice Oloyede for not just cause than speaking the truth and be on the side of the people, condemning the said letter and described the letter as undemocratic, unconstitutional and wickedness on the part of those authored the anti-Oloyede’s letter to Judicial council.
His words: “Impeachment investigation into the allegations raised by Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede in her petition against the State governor, Mr Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola and his deputy, Mrs. Grace Titilayo Laoye-Tomori to the Osun State House of Assembly may be politicized or twisted by the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled Assembly to favour Aregbesola and Laoye-Tomori, but the only way to bring justice, equity, transparency and fair play into the matter, is to allow the impeachment proceedings at the floor of the house to be televised live on DSTV stations. Anything short of this will not be tenable by the people of the State.
“Our investigation revealed to us that the twenty four APC lawmakers including Speaker, Honourable Najeem Salaam and some anti-masses group have been working round the clock to ensure that the petition does not see the light of the day and those who are signatories to the anti-Justice Oloyede’s petition to the National Judicial Council(NJC) are people of questionable characters and aide to Rauf Aregbesola which made the letter to be suspecting emanated from the Governor Aregbesola who is looking for way to sweep the investigation under the carpet because Aregbesola and his deputy knew that they have committed many eyesore impeachable offences”.
Sulaiman then urged the good people of Osun to rise up in condemning those behind the said anti Justice Oloyede’s letter to the National Judicial Council (NJC) and they must be seen as the enemies of Osun people and their development.
