The Lagos state police command has issued a statement to address reports that armed robbers lay siege on banks in Festac Town, a suburb of Lagos on Friday.
The reports, quoting a certain Nduka who was said to be a resident of the area, claimed that the attack took place at 4th Avenue.
“They have been shooting for over one hour now, and none of the security agencies has come to our rescue. This is the second time in the year that they will attack 4th Avenue,” Nduka was quoted to have said.
But Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmnus, said the story was fabricated and isn’t true.
“It is not anyway or part true and so should be treated as such and by extension discarded,” she noted.
“The Command remains resolute in ensuring no bank robbery or any form of robbery happens again in Lagos state.
“Residents of Festac Town and Lagos at large are hereby assured of the Command’s commitment to their safety and security.
“Members of the public are hereby advised to verify information before circulating to avoid creating unnecessary panic and feelings of insecurity, and to promptly report any form of criminality to the police”, she added.
