Chelsea took full advantage of a 9-man Arsenal to get their 2015/2016 English Premiership campaign back on track. The Jose Mourinho-coached team has had a lacklustre opening to the season with only one victory in the five matches. The defending champions seemed to be headed for another poor performance after an uninspiring first-half against London side, Arsenal.
The 6th week EPL match against their rivals started on a slow pace with each team finding it difficult to break the deadlock. Luck began to smile on The Blues following the sending off of Gabriel Paulista by referee Mike Dean in the 45th min of the encounter. The altercation between Chelsea’s forward Diego Costa and the Arsenal defender had them booked before the Gunners defender decided to take things into his hands.
Chelsea capitalized on the one man advantage scoring through a Kurt Zouma header from a Fabregas set piece in the 53rd min to set them on their way to victory. Captain Santi Cazorla was sent off late in the game for a second bookable offence.
A defected Eden Hazard goal in the 91st min finally put the game beyond the visitors.
The 2-0 victory to Chelsea sees them climb up the table to the 13th spot while Arsenal drops one spot to the 5th position on the log.
