Professor Franklin Ani’s Babcock University Association of Medical Students [BUAMS] quiz, an annual quiz that is hosted by Babcock University and conducted during BUAMS Health Week which also serves as their intercollegiate quiz competition took place on the 5th of February,2019 at the Babcock University High School Hall. The quiz was attended by seven great Nigerian Institutions which are Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital complex[OAUTHC],University of Lagos College of Medicine[Medilag], Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital[OOUTH], Ladoke Akintola University[LAUTECH],Bowen University, Babcock University and Lagos State University College of Medicine[LASUCOM].
The competition was geared towards encouraging academic performance and fostering reputable relationships amongst the Nigerian Institutions .This quiz happens to be the first Inter-collegiate quiz for the LASUCOM Quiz Team in 2019.
The categories of the quiz were General Knowledge, General Science, pre-clinicals, pathology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Medicine and Surgery. Six categories in total of which each school was required to answer a couple of questions each from these categories in the various rounds.
At the end of the first round which was a great battle that sent cold chills down every participant spines of which two schools were to be eliminated, there was a tie between LASUCOM and OAUTHC and the method called ‘’sudden death’’ was employed to break the tie and to eliminate two schools in that round .OAUTHC got the question wrong and were eliminated together with LAUTECH while LASUCOM got their question right and proceeded to the next round. At the end of the final round which was between LASUCOM ,MEDILAG and Babcock University ,the host school eventually taking up the reins of precedence by emerging first place winners, then LASUCOM after a hot hustle with the host school emerging as the first runner up , while Medilag ,having displayed a significant amount of doggedness came third in position thereby emerging as the second runner up.
The Quiz competition then came to an end with everyone having pragmatic experiences and stories to tell of the intensely-challenging competition.
The participants from LASUCOM were Awogun Ibrahim [president of the Quiz Team], Lawal Simbiat ,Faniyi Oluwatobi, Akingbola Adewunmi, Ojo Mayowa and Sangosanya Gbotemi. Despite the inadequate preparation, the spirit of Team work and togetherness which exists between participants was exhibited that day and LASUCOM participants were saluted for their displayed sagacity and intelligence.
‘’Strive for knowledge and understanding, that´s what makes the distinction’’. We are happy because in our own little way, we are re-shaping the image of our great and prestigious institution.
‘’We are LASU ,we are proud’’.
‘’We are LASUCOM ,the pride of LASU’’.
