A 31-year-old man became an internet sensation due to his addiction to drinking liquid detergent.
The Chinese man, Zhang Yue, who originally hails from southwest China’s Chongqing city, disclosed that his addiction started in 2012 with a few sips which later degenerated to his uncontrollable yearn for them.
According to him, he cannot just stop the urge to drink liquid detergents ranging from dish washing soaps to shampoos.
His condition medically known as Pica, is an eating disorder that is characterized by the desire to eat items with little or no nutritional value, including stones, sand, paint, and in this case, detergent.
Zhang’s obsession with consuming detergents has cost him a stable love life as women run far from him as soon as they catch a wind of his unusual addiction.
More surprising is the fact that medical checks on him stated that he is pretty healthy despite all the detergents he has consumed.
However, the disorder is rarely seen in adult men, and mostly affects children and pregnant women. Although hormonal changes and deficiencies are commonly attributed to explain the cravings, there has been no conclusive evidence to prove this.
