Bobbi Kristina Brown’s life was celebrated today in the church where she and her beloved mother Whitney Houston would pray together.
Mum and daughter would regularly attend the St James United Methodist Church for over a decade.
But on Saturday afternoon, Bobbi Kristina arrived alone, in a silver casket, as her family gathered for her funeral service.
Bobby Brown led the mourners alongside wife Alicia Etheredge, a frail Cissy Houston was there with sons Gary and Michael. Bobbi Kristina’s aunt, Pat Houston was also there.
The Mayor of Atlanta, Kasim Reid, a friend of the family, also paid his respects.
There was one absentee though – Nick Gordon, the man Bobbi Kristina was due to marry later this month. He was banned by singer Bobby Brown.
The pair had grown up together after Whitney adopted him, they later went on to date one another.
Nick, 25, who along with the late 22-year-old’s ex-boyfriend, Max Lomas, found her unresponsive, face down in the bath tub at their home in Roswell, Atlanta, instead stayed at his mum’s home in Florida where he is struggling to come to terms with his girlfriend’s death.
The funeral, so private that government ID was required for entry, began at 11am sharp.
Nine police motorcycles led two black stretched limousines carrying the Houston family into the church.
Dressed in a dusky pink blouse for the farewell, Cissy, 82, looked frail as she arrived for the funeral on the arm of her son Gary.
The family now fear for her health as she is said to be “in pieces.”
The private service was said to have a “sweet 16, prom theme” as Bobbi had missed out on both celebrations. But Whitney, who died of a cardiac arrest in the bath at the Beverly Hills Hilton hotel in Los Angeles aged 48, was also a central part to the funeral.
Friends and family were inconsolable as Reverend Michael McQueen, the senior pastor at St James’ hosted the the service.
Prayers from the old and new testaments were read, followed by tributes and a eulogy.
The family are due to gather at the Houston family home in Roswell for a post funeral wake before Bobbi Kristina’s body is flown to New Jersey where she will be buried alongside her mother at the Fairview Cemetery.
Bobbi Kristina died last Sunday following a six month battle to live after the bath incident.
She never regained consciousness and passed away peacefully at the Peachtree Christian Hospice, surrounded by her family.
