The police on Monday June 29, arraigned three men in an Abule Egba Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for alleged fraud and stealing.
The accused – Oladayo Temitope,45; Ogini Tope, 32, and Johnson Ifeolayide, 45, all unemployed, live inside Ojota new garage, Lagos. They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and fraud.
The prosecutor, Insp. Rachael Williams told the court that the offences were committed on April 1, along Iju Ishaga Road, Lagos.
Williams said the accused under false pretence, allegedly defrauded one Mrs Afusat Awotunde of N500,000.
According to Williams, the accused, under false pretence, allegedly connived and collected N500,000, by selling to her a herbal drug they claimed would cure the complainant sister’s ailment.
“After the dubious acts, the accused disappeared and all effort to see trace proved abortive,” she said.
Williams said that police detective arrested the accused who had gone underground after collecting the complainant’s money.
She said the offences contravened sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The Magistrate, Mrs Adenike Shonubi granted the accused bail in the sum of N 100,000 each, with one surety inlike sum.
Shonubi adjourned the case till July 1 for trial.
