Chelsea are ready to bolster their defensive options with a £60million bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, as Kurt Zouma is out of action until the end of the year.
Antonio Conte is determined to land the centre back and has already seen a £48m bid rejected for the 25-year-old defender he has returned with an offer he believes is too good to turn down.
If Koulibaly does put pen-to-paper, it will surpass the £50m Chelsea paid for Fernando Torres in 2011.
Koulibaly was relatively unknown across Europe until he impressed with dominating performances in Serie A last season and Conte hopes he can bring his form to the English Premier League.
In a related development, Antonio Conte hasn’t given up on his chase for Everton forward Romelu Lukaku.
The London club has offered Loic Remy in an attempt to land the powerful Belgian striker but Ronald Koeman is determined to keep hold of his key player.
