The selfie craze has been around for what feels like a long time now – and people are resorting to snapping themselves in increasingly bizarre situations.
But one doctor in Venezuela has seemingly taken it a step too far, by taking a selfie next to a woman giving birth and publishing it online.
Daniel Sanchez, a student obstetrician, reportedly posted the photo on his Instagram account with the caption: “Lady I can deliver your baby but first let me take a selfie,”according to AOL.
It is not made explicit whether he had permission from the woman to take the photo, but it has since caused outrage online.
A petition calling for the hospital to investigate Sanchez’s actions has since clocked up over 5,000 signatures.
The creator of the petition wrote: “It is absolutely unacceptable and illegal to take pictures of the women or babies admitted to the Maternity Services without their knowledge and without their consent.
“It is just simply inappropriate in the professional interaction. And to them (sic) publish it on social media with sexually discriminatory comments it is extremely worrying and an embarrassment to any hospital.”
The doctor has since made his Instagram account private.
