A friendly football match turned deadly when a teenager stabbed his friend to death during an altercation.
The deceased identified as Michael Tanko, an orphan was sent to his early grave by his friend, Kayode Babayanju on Monday, July 19, 2016 at no 47 Oseni Laide Street in the Okota area of Lagos State.
It was gathered that the match started out on a friendly note while the both teams had fun as they played on the streets until a misunderstanding began which degenerated into physical confrontations, during which the deceased was stabbed on the elbow.
Unfortunately, Tanko, who was an SS2 student of Hills International Shool, bled so badly and gave up the ghost as he was being rushed to a nearby hospital.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident and stated that a manhunt has been launched to arrest the fleeing suspect.
She said, “One Oke Obi Odiaka came to the station and reported that one Kayode Babayanju stabbed his nephew one Michael Tanko aged 18yrs on his left hand with a broken bottle as a result of a misunderstanding they had while playing football along the street.
“The complainant futher stated that while rushing the victim to the hospital for treatment, he died on the way hence the report.
“The corpse has been deposited at Isolo General Hospital while efforts are being intensified to arrest the suspect, who fled the scene immediately after committing the offence.
“The case will be transferred to homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba.”
