Cazathan Anyanwu, a Lagos bus driver was sentenced 37, to 100 hours of community service for stabbing his colleague with a bottle during a fight at a motor park by Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Friday.
Anyanwu, a resident of No. 22, Obalende Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.
Having listened to the facts of the case provided by the prosecutor,Insp. Ingobo Emby, the Magistrate, Mrs I. O. Omotosho, pronounced the sentence “The accused is hereby sentenced to 100 hours of community service for injuring his colleague with a bottle having pleaded guilty.”
The prosecutor had earlier told the court that on April 17 at 7.30 a.m. at Obalende Motor Park, Anyanwu attacked one of his colleagues popularly known as Marico with a bottle and injured his nose.
According to him, a fight broke out between them following a disagreement on whose turn to load his bus first. He said the accused assaulted Marico, and also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of public peace. Emby noted that the offences contravened Sections 166 (d) and 411 (2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Anyanwu pleaded that the court temper justice with mercy and promised that he would not engage in such a violent act in the future.
