A delegation from Ekiti State led by the Director, Career Management and Training, Office of the Head of Service, Ekiti State, Mrs. Bukola Olorunyomi, has visited the Lagos State Public Service Staff Development Centre, (PSSDC), Magodo to understudy the policies surrounding learning and development as well as deepening and sharpening of officers’ skills for efficient day-to-day running of government activities.
The Director-General, PSSDC, Mr. Senukon Ajose-Harrison, in his welcome address at the event, lauded the efforts of Ekiti State for aspiring to establish a Management Development Centre to build the capacity of its workforce and for choosing Lagos State as a model to emulate in the process.
He averred that many other States had come to understudy Lagos on the similar subject because they considered it ideal to emulate the State on Learning and Development, noting that Ondo State’s delegation had played similar visit because Lagos is a pacesetter in all ramifications.
Responding to the request made by the delegation, Ajose-Harrison expressed willingness to support Ekiti State in its quest to establish a functional Staff Development Centre and advised that Ekiti State should enrol its staff for appropriate courses in PSSDC to acquire relevant knowledge on the operational techniques of the centre.
The Director-General told the delegation that further interactions on the request will be communicated to the delegation through the Office of the Head of Service (HoS).
Earlier, Mrs. Olorunyomi stated that the purpose of the delegation’s visit was to deepen and sharpen its officers’ skills and develop the capacity to establish a similar institution in Ekiti State, revealing that she had visited several management development institutions but Lagos stands out.
In her words, “I have gone to several Management Development Centres, PSSDC is just unique, Ekiti State does not want to be complacent and would like to emulate Lagos because it is ahead of other States in all areas/sectors”.
The delegation was later taken round all the facilities and training rooms within the Centre for first-hand assessment of the Centre’s capability to train staff for the proposed Ekiti Staff Development Centre and to have the feel of the requirements to run such an institution.
