Work continues on the road beneath the interstate bypass overpass to replace the roadway, median, and curbs. More construction further down Westerville Road enlarges the Dempsey Road interchange and widens the road in front of businesses before the Alum Creek bridge. The city of Westerville is also changing the South State Street intersection at Huber Village Blvd. for wider lanes and an improved traffic pattern.

Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), has announced the commencement of the construction of concrete roads in states across the country, including Lagos, Bauchi, Kogi, Kaduna and Ogun.

Recall that the Chairman, Dangote Cement Plc, Aliko Dangote, recently reiterated his plea to the Federal Government to consider the use of concrete in road construction in the country.

Besides being very cheap, he said concrete roads are more durable and that maintenance cost is near zero, stressing it would be to the benefit of Nigerians and the government to embrace the option.

“We are very happy at the moment. We can categorically state that we are in more than five states across the country already constructing roads. The reception has been wonderful. State governments are beginning to see the need to embrace concrete roads and we are very happy at the way things are currently going,” the company said.

“We are pushing for Nigeria to do concrete roads. It is cheaper to do a concrete road that will last 50 years than to do a bitumen road. It will also help in eliminating corruption because if you go and build a bitumen road, it will have to be adequately maintained unlike a concrete road that is very durable,” Dangote added.
