The lifeless remains of a 57-year-old foreign national was found dangling down a rope in a hotel located at No. 8, African Line, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.
The man identified as Charles Carlson, who hailed from the United States, was said to be on a business trip to Nigeria, although it was not disclosed how long he has been lodged in the hotel.
According to reports, workers at the hotel became suspicious when he did not come down stairs to have his breakfast as usual.
Calls were placed to the intercom in his room and also his mobile phone but they were all left unanswered.
Some of the workers called the attention of the Manager of the hotel, Vincent Onwunke, to the incident and he contacted Carlson’s business partner with an undisclosed identity, who rushed to the hotel.
After several knocks without any response, the door to his room was eventually forced open and people were shocked to find Carlson’s body dangling from a rope tied round his neck by the door.
It is still not clear why he took such drastic step but speculations have it that it could possibly be out of frustration over the high cost of things in the country following the economic recession.
When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, confirmed the incident, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, had directed that the case be transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for discreet investigation.
Meanwhile, Carlson’s lifeless remains has been evacuated to a mortuary by police officials from Maroko Division.
