Igbo youths, under the auspices of Ohaneze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide, have issued a stern warning that they would retaliate any attacks by the North on Igbo indigenes and their businesses before, during and after the general elections.
President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, gave the warning in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, at the weekend after a solidarity visit to the President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Udengs Eradiri.
He charged the Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, and his colleagues to ensure that adequate security is provided for the Ndigbo in the North.
Isiguzoro said though the Igbo in the North had been asked by the group to remain calm, any attacks on them would be responded with coordinated reprisals in the East and South-South regions of the country.
According to him, the call on NGF to ensure security for Igbo indigenes was hinged on a security report that some northerners were planning to unleash violence in a bid to take over the businesses and homes of the Ndigbo.
