A 40-year-old man Ibrahim Idris has been sentenced to death by hanging by the Bauchi State High Court presided over by Justice Yelim S. Bogoro, for killing a six year old girl after he failed in his attempt to rape her.
Idris was dragged to court by the State Director Public Prosecutions Barrister Dawud Yakubu who charged him with culpable homicide.
Dawud told the court that on September 14, 2012, the accused called the deceased six year old into his room, with the intention to rape her. When she refused, Idris used his knife to cut her head and threw it into a water channel in a polybag.
He said the body of the deceased was recovered and taken to General Hospital Darazo for postmortem, before it was later handed over to her parents for burial.
He called five witnesses and presented the axe and knife that he used to cut her head as exhibits and the witnessed testified that he made a confessional statement.
In her judgment, Justice Bogoro said the confessional statement of the accused was direct and held that the prosecution has proved his case and sentenced the accused to death by hanging.
She said: “I hereby sentence you to death to be hanged by the neck till you die.”
Idris has right to appeal within 30 days.
