Nigeria’s Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, has resigned according to several reports.
It is not clear when she submitted her resignation letter.
If confirmed, Adeosun will be the second person appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari who has left office following public outcry.
Thesheet.ng recalls that Babachir Lawal was fired as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) after a Senate Committee on Humanitarian Crisis in the North-East, had found him culpable of complicity in a N200million grass-cutting contract to clear “invasive plant species” in Yobe State.
Adeosun’s resignation followed the allegation of not serving the compulsory National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and obtaining a certificate that the NYSC have disowned.
The issue generated a lot of reactions from Nigerians with many calling on the President to relieve her of her job.
Sources say the minister’s resignation may not be unconnected with feelings that her position is becoming untenable and is hurting the President in the run up to the 2019 election.
Nigerians have taken to social media to react to the report of the Finance Minister’s resignation.
Read some reactions on twitter below:
Wait, so they've asked Kemi Adeosun to resign in order to make us forget yesterday's Nepotistic DSS appointment by Buhari?
Dei sorkrificed Kemi, innit?

Kemi Adeosun resigned 'cos of NYSC. Now I understand why Davido cancelled his tour to take NYSC serious.
He might just want to run for Office sometime in the future. pic.twitter.com/37TSlM0XtV

A Nigerian Minister, Kemi Adeosun has resigned. I don’t remember tweeting “reigned” beside the name of a Nigerian minister. This was late in coming but better late than never.

So if Kemi Adeosun wasn't hurting the political perception of Buhari, she would have stayed on.
"Integrity" has been become an item of expediency.

With Kemi Adeosun’s reported resignation, it’s safe to declare that Nigeria’s journalist of the year is definitely our own @abdulfagge, for revealing her forgery and how she was being exploited by NASS. And allow me to famz that he’s my former co-worker. #ProudFriendsCommunity 😀

Kemi Adeosun resigning is not what the law dictates. There will be “no sacred cows” when she’s arrested and prosecuted for the alleged forgery of NYSC Certificate. That is the law. Until then, this is just another episode of epic nollywood series. https://t.co/YRRPE9CT9V

IF indeed Kemi Adeosun has resigned, she has my respect for towing the path of honour. I wish she had done this long ago.
If there was alleged forgery, I guess the police will investigate further & prosecute if proven.
When the system works, we all benefit. Kids are watching

Okay guys, Kemi Adeosun resigns finally.

Common baba you can do this, don't let your children down, just honourably resign. Don't let Tinubu and the cabal to push you to disgrace, take the step of honour.

Kemi Adeosun resigns – Daily Trust News
If it’s true, she has my full respect 100% because hardly can any Nigerian politician resign their office if they were involved in such accusation she has.

If indeed Kemi Adeosun resigned because of her NYSC certificate scandal, then she did the right thing.
Hopefully, the NYSC act can now be amended to take care of peculiar cases like hers.
Buhari should also follow her line and resign for being incompetent.

The reason I’m less interested in debating Nigeria’s politics is the people. Everyone is mad.
The same people hell bent on seeing Kemi Adeosun resign because of NYSC certificate, are the ones silent about Adeleke not having any certificate. pic.twitter.com/fVirTLMQc8
