Katsina state governor, has shed more light on the reason why the north was united against the candidacy of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 Presidential elections.
Masari, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, said that northern Nigeria would have been in misery had Jonathan won the 2015 presidential election.
He further described the situation the north found itself as precarious in which the region fall short in every aspect of human development.
Governor Masari disclosed this at the 33rd annual symposium in memory of late Malam Aminu Kano held at the Centre for Democratic Research and Training, AKCDRT, Mambayya House, Kano.
According to him, the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari has brought glimmer of hope to the north and anticipation of the return of socio-economic prosperity.
They have been fears that Jonathan was going to implement the report of the National Political Conference with far reaching implications for the existing skewed federal system if he had won re-election.
Meanwhile, northern elders under the umbrella of Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has written to President Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that the region has been shortchanged through the instrumentality of the 2016 Budget, which it said lacked equity.
The northern elders in the letter claimed that that the North was being marginalised under the current government, stressing that Buhari needed to allocate massive projects to the North in the next three years to ensure that the economy of the area is enhanced.
