A coalition of community based groups have launched the campaign for 3 million votes for the All Progressives Congress, (APC) candidate in the Lagos gubernatorial race, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Irohinoodua attended the event.
Addressing the media in Lagos today, the Convener of a new group, Sanwo-Olu Ambassadors, Mr Wale Arogundade said structures have been established in the 57 local government areas to ensure that Sanwo-Olu secures 3 million votes in the forthcoming elections.
The Sanwo-Olu Ambassadors, he said is a coalition of 3,000 community based and youth driven organisations spread across Lagos. He said each ward in the state has a coordinator that has been trained to move from house-to-house and street-to-street in the campaign to ensure the victory of Sanwo-Olu.
The event was attended by hundreds of party faithful drawn from across the 57 local councils in Lagos State. The group distributed thousands of sovenirs including books, T-shirts, stickers and face caps.
He said “our desire is to launch a house-to-house campaign to ensure overwhelming and unprecedented victory of Mr Sanwo-Olu in the coming election. Our target is 3 million votes for the APC and Sanwo-Olu. This can only be achieved. We will secure 3 million votes for the candidate.”
To this end, he said beginning from Monday January 14, his group will be visiting every street, market places, churches, mosques, the creeks and water side to speak to the people of Lagos to support Mr Sanwo-Olu in the coming election.
Arogundade said “With a voter’s figure of 6.2million in Lagos, securing 3 million votes for Mr Sanwo-Olu will definitely not be a difficult task. We call on all voters in Lagos to join us in this tall order. This is a task that must be fulfilled.”
He said further “This is a task we shall fulfill. We use this opportunity to call for a free and fair election in Lagos. We call on voters in Lagos to be provided with adequate security. We call for vigilance to ensure the votes of the people of Lagos count. We thank you all for your patience and understanding.”
He said his group has gone through the manifesto of Mr Sanwo-Olu adding that he represents the best of all the candidates.
“We have gone through the manifesto of Mr Sanwo-Olu. We are impressed. We are inspired that he will continue all capital projects. We are impressed that he will create more jobs, tackle electricity decline through new incentives and innovations and battle insecurity with greater zeal.
“We call on those waging campaigns against the candidate to desist. Lagos is a seat for humanity. This great city has seen input from all spheres of humanity and here lay her prowess, her grandeur and the indomitable source of her enviable splendor.”
