There was serious pandemonium as three men stabbed their 25-year-old friend, Matthew Iyede, to death as disagreement over girlfriend turned out deadly at a popular bar in Eku, Ethiope Local Government Area of Delta State.
Eyewitnesses told Southern City News that the victim died as a result of the injuries he sustained on his chest after he was stabbed several times at Blue Sea Restaurant and Bar, in Eku near Delta State University Abraka on Sunday.
According to the report, the deceased had gone to the bar when he was ambushed by some armed youths who were allegedly led by one Ese Uku who prior had warned him to steer clear from his girlfriend.
A relative to the deceased who narrated the incident said: “I don’t reside in Eku. He was stabbed at a plaza close to Eku Town Hall. He was stabbed over a ‘girl’. Those involved are at large. Names of the suspected murderers have been submitted to the police.”
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Celestina Kalu, said two of the suspects had been arrested in Abraka.
Kalu said: “The vigilante group in collaboration with the police arrested two suspects in connection with the case.
“The names of the suspects are Kevwe Edward,21 and Lucky Grant,19. The suspects will be transferred to SCIIDC for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.”
Meanwhile, the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the Eku General Hospital pending on when the investigation is completed.
