Manchester United handed Sunderland a 3-goal defeat to see them climb to the top of the English Premiership table. The Red Devils took advantage of the 4-1 defeat suffered by former table leaders, Manchester City, to Tottenham earlier today to climb up the EPL log.
The Louis van Gaal men opened up scoring in the 45th min with Memphis Depay latching on to a Juan Mata assist. On resumption of the second-half, captain Wayne Rooney ended his goal drought with a 46th min effort to put the game beyond the visitors at Old Trafford.
Spaniard midfielder Juan Mata added to the Wearsiders’ woes with a 90th min effort to seal victory for the Red Devils in front of their supporters.
The victory leaves Manchester United on 16 points with their neighbours, City on 15 points after 7 matches.
