Robbers tried to smash their way into Manchester United star Angel Di Maria’s house as the footballer ate dinner with his family, it has emerged.
The gang smashed the windows of the Argentina winger’s home but fled when the alarm sounded.
Last night an Old Trafford source confirmed the raiders left empty handed after the attempted break-in on Saturday night.
“They stole some metal poles from a neighbouring property and broke some windows attempting to get in but ran off before being able to enter the property,” said the source.
di Maria, who had featured in Man Utd’s 3-1 victory over Leicester earlier in the day was at home with his wife Jorgelina and daughter Mia at the time.
Di Maria became the most expensive player in British history, signing for The Red Devils for £59.7million from Real Madrid during the 2014 summer transfer window.
The star, di Maria has settled in well – even posting pictures enjoying the snow – on an Instagram account he shares with his wife.
di Maria was the only Premier League player named in FIFA’s World Team of the year for 2014, after shining for Real Madrid on their way to capturing ‘La Decima’.
The 26-year-old has featured 14 times this season under new boss Louis Van Gaal, scoring four goals.
