Nigerian entreprenuer, Mike Adenuga, alongside former athlete and Police Officer, Chioma Ajunwa-Opara and IT guru, Leo Stan Ekeh were some of the recipients of the Zakilo awards at Alibaba‘s January 1st concert held at Eko hotel and Suites, Lagos on Thursday January 1, 2015.
The three were awarded for being pioneers in their fields; establishing Nigeria’s first indigenous telecoms, being the first athlete to win an Olympic gold medal and establishing Nigeria’s first internationally certified computer brand respectively.
Also awarded were Aloma Mariam Mukhtar for being the first female Judge to be named on the bench of the Supreme Court and Yewande Cole for being the first and only female flight engineer in Nigeria.
The awards were presented by the First Lady of Lagos State, Abimbola Fashola and wife of late Zakilo, in whose honour the awards were given.
The concert also witnessed performances from top musicians including 2face, Sound Sultan, Omawumi, Waje, Vector, Black Magic and comedians, Tee A, AY, Gbenga Adeyinka, Bovi, De Don, Jeddi, Princess, Helen Paul …
