For some Nigerian celebrities, it was about the entertainment industry or nothing. The likes of Helen Paul, Rita Dominic, Ini Edo, all have a university background in theatre arts. While for some others, they kind of stumbled into acting, music, comedy or what have you.

We will take a look at some of these celebrities who maybe, entertainment was not their first love (at least going by their course of study), but against all odds, they have recorded huge success in the industry.

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde

A graduate of Estate Management, happily married to a pilot, with an ambition to work in business management, currently a Nollywood screen goddess; I present to you the multi-talented Omotola Jalade Ekeinde. Ok let me add this, song-writer, musician… the list is endless.

Imagine Omotola had ventured into estate management, she was going to deprive us the joy of seeing Nollywood’s omosexy in Nigerian movies. Just take some seconds think about that.

Born in Ikorodu, Lagos state, Funke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, has an OND in Mass Communication from Ogun State Polytechnic and a degree in Law from the University of Lagos. Hon. Desmond Olusola Elliot

Born to a Yoruba father and an Igbo mother; and married to an Akwa-Ibom woman, meet our self-acclaimed Pan-African actor and politician, Hon. Desmond Olusola Elliot. Desmond is a graduate of Economics from the Lagos State University who recently won a seat at the Lagos state house of representations.

Truth be told, I think his popularity as a nollywood star, played a major role in his election. So imagine he continued in his previously chosen career path, we would not even have known that his name is Olusola!

Bankole Wellington was born in the United States to Nigerian parents, but the family moved back to Lagos Nigeria when he was five years old where he began singing in his church choir at the age of 8. After completing his secondary school Education at Home Science Association Secondary School, he moved to New York to attend college on a scholarship; earning a degree in Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. While still in college, he won the ‘Albany Idol’ competition, which catapulted him into the spotlight.

Mr Capable, studied Engineering and has not done babdly. At least he engineered Wizkid’s rise to stardom which is good enough.

Dr Sid

Sidney Esiri, son of veteran actor Justus Esiri graduated from the University of Ibadan as a Dentist. Speaking in an interview he said: “I was very passionate about dentistry because I’m a guy who is very hands on. I like to take a screw driver, roll up my sleeves and take something apart and then fix it. So being able to do that inside the human body was amazing. When I had that scalpel in my hand, I would take the cadavers apart skillfully.”

When asked if he has intentions of going back to Dental practice he said: “I might not practice but I do have intentions of opening a state-of-the-art medical centre not just for dental surgery but for General Medicine as well. I owe it to the community that gave me my training and most of the things I learnt in the University.”

Well, look what our Doctor has become, a successful hip pop star! What a transformation.
