If there’s any recent story that embodies the Nigerian grass to grace story it should be that of model, Olajumoke Orisaguna whose journey to stardom remains one of the most inspirational event of the year 2016.
Her story is one that borders on sheer luck and how one can come by success through an earlier unimagined path concocted entirely by chance.
A year ago, the then innocent looking breadseller was on her usual daily hustle along the streets of Lagos when she landed in the middle of a photoshoot by celebrity photographer TY Bello and British-Nigerian entertainer and style icon Tinie Tempah.
TY Bello later uploaded the picture on her Instagram page without any serious cause but the good comments of her followers who mistook the suffering Olajumoke for a professional model prompted her to search for her for modeling works. When she did found Olajumoke, it was like tsunami across the Nigerian social media space.
For Olajumoke Orisaguna, that was her watershed moment: from that point onward, her life took a dramatic turn for the better that still baffles her till date.
Within a month of her chanced photobombing, she become a social media celebrity, was featured by major media platforms, both local and international, became a runway model, was the face of a major bank. Her grass to grace story is the stuff of the Nigerian dream.
One year later, Olajumoke is waxing strong. Over the weekend, she made her debut appearance at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards red carpet. Today, she is thankful.
In an emotional Instagram post today, the mother of two thanked all those who have contributed to her growth since she was discovered by photographer Ty Bello.
“I woke up this morning feeling very emotional,” the Payporte ambassador said, adding, “it’s been one year already since God used aunty TY to turn my story around, it’s been one year since all of you accepted me, gave me a chance & celebrated me like I was born to be part of this system.”
