2. It will take place in seven different polling units across 4 local governments in the state.

1. Orolu local government, the rerun will take place in three different polling units in two wards.

(A) Ward 8, Polling unit 001, 393 registered voters but 303 PVCs were collected.

(B) Ward 8, Polling unit 004, 387 registered voters but 353 PVCs were collected.

(C) Ward 9, Polling unit 3, 169 registered voters but 150 PVCs were collected.

2. Ife South local government, the rerun will take place in two different wards;

(a) Ward 7, Polling unit 12, 812 registered voters but 581 PVCs were collected.

(b) Ward 8, polling unit 10, 502 registered voters but 210 PVCs were collected.

3. Ife North Local Government area,

(A) Ward 10, unit 2, 353 registered voters but PVCs 320 were collected.

4. Osogbo Local Government area, the rerun will take place at

(A) Ward 5, Polling Unit 17 which has 884 registered voters but 677 PVCs were collected.

With the total of 2,637 PVCs collected in the seven polling units, these set of electorates will decide who will succeed the Rauf Aregbesola APC-led administration after eight years of governance.

2.46am[Orolu LGA]: Dr Joe Oke Odumakin, one of the observers, briefing journalists about her assessment of the poll, said the process was peaceful in the two voting units she visited.

She said though there were lots of allegations about voters harassment in Orolu LG she didn’t witness anything of such when she got there.

She said her team met about six elderly voters on their way and they complained of harassment but she told me them to be patient.

The reportedly followed her to Idi Iya polling unit to cast their votes.

Odumakin said that as the time she got to Idi Iya polling unit, 106 out of the 167 registered voters in the unit had already voted. According to her, the situation was the same at Gbogbo in Orolu LG.

2.30pm[Ife South]: Sorting of votes reportedly begins at Ward 07, PU 012, Olode, Adereti Village, Ife South LGA.

2.15pm [Osogbo]: Voting concludes at point 1 . US consular general with the electoral officials during sorting out of votes.

2pm: INEC said all the issues of the reported denial of Journalists’ and observers’ access to polling units have been resolved.

1.47pm [Osogbo]: Voting concluded at voting point 1 . It remains voting point 2 now.

1.36pm [Osogbo]: The process is gradually coming to an end here. Voters on the queue at point A are just 8 while we have like 20 voters at point B.

1.05pm: Shegun Awoyemi, an agent of the PRP has been arrested at Polling unit 17, Ward 5. A foreign observer called the attention of the security agents to him. The foreign obaserver said he has been observing him since. He said whenever the voters finish casting their votes they will go and meet him. He therefore asked the security officer to search him and a total amount of twenty one thousand one hundred and forty Maura was found in his inner pocket.

12.51pm: A journalist named Chinma Joel was reportedly attacked and beaten up by political thugs at Ola Iya junction in Osogbo. The junction is very close to Alekuwodo where the election is taken place.

His camera and tripod also were reportedly damaged.

12.18pm [Osogbo]: Mr. Chongs W. Mantu, the police officer reportedly in charge of monitoring and compliance at the polling unit said that journalists and observers are being restricted from entering Orolu LG where the rerun is also taking place because some stalwarts of an unnamed political party were going to the place under the pretence of being election observers and journalists. He said the people were stopped along Ifon Road and arrested around 3am early this morning.

Despite the heavy rain, voters are back on the line to cast their Ballot at Unit 17 Ward 5 Oshogbo local Government.

But there are disagreements because positions on queues have been altered.

Rain disrupts voting process in Osogbo

A heavy downpour has just  started in Osogbo.

Queues have dissolved and voters are seen running for cover.

There is a large turn-out of voters at Olode, Ife South as they defied the rain to perform their civic duty.

A large detachment of security personnel were seen around.

The voting exercise started 8am as scheduled.

Voting begins in Unit 17, Ward 5, Alekuwodo, Osogbo

 

Voting has started in Unit 17, Ward 5, Alekuwodo area in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ordered a re-run in the unit due to disruptions that occurred there during the governorship election last Saturday.

Voting began at exactly 8am and is going on peacefully at the unit where 947 voters were affected.

There is a large turnout of voters, some of who converged on the unit as early as 7am.

There are three queues, with two polling booths.

A large detachment of security personnel were seen around adjourning streets.

Armed men of the police, army and the Department of State Services (DSS) were strategically positioned to ensure there are no disruptions.

Those coming to the unit were asked to identify themselves by their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Only accredited journalists were granted access to the unit.

The voters were asked to stand at some distance from the polling booths, and only those casting their voters are allowed near them.

At the entrance to the village, PDP supporters initially decline going into d village to vote claiming security not tight.

Osogbo, 11:00 – Police Arrest Suspected Thug With Charms, Marijuana

The Police have arrested three suspected thugs near Unit 17, Ward 5, in Osogbo where a rerun election is ongoing.

They were caught with charms and wraps of Indian Hemp (marijuana).

They were arrested in a building just by the polling unit where a rerun was ordered due to disruptions.

The three young men in their 20s could not explain their mission around the unit but claimed they were not thugs.

They said they were going about their normal business.

According to them, they did not mean to harm anyone with the charms.

They said it was for their own protection.

The three protested their innocence as they were asked to lie on the floor before being taken away.

Another middle-aged man was caught with what was suspected to be a fake Permanent Voter Card (PVC). It had no photograph on it.

The Police led him away for further interrogation.

Osun rerun: No cause for alarm, says REC

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun State Mr Olusegun Agbaje has assured voters of their safety during the ongoing re-run election.

He said adequate security arrangements have been made to ensure maximum security.

Agbaje urged voters in the affected units to come out and vote.

Addressing reporters in Unit 17, Ward 5 in Osogbo where a re-run is taking place, he said the turnout has been impressive.

“From what I’ve seen here, the process is very calm. The arrangement is quite in order. I believe that by the grace of God everything will end well. There’s no problem. There’s no cause for alarm.”

‘Victory is in the Hand of God’ says PDP

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) says it is confident that its candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke will emerge victorious in Thursday’s governorship re-run election.

The party’s National Vice-Chairman (South-West), Eddy Olafeso, who stated this while addressing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday, said the “PDP is not bothered because our people are resolute. And they are desirous in ensuring that the victory denied us on Saturday will eventually be ours.”

“We met with the leaders but victory is in the hands of God… even if people play around, God will not play around. He’ll determine the outcome of the election,” he said.

PDP Leads APC With 353 Votes As #OsunDecides

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leads the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 353 votes in the Osun gubernatorial election.

The results announced by the Professor Joseph Fuwape, the presiding officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun said the PDP garnered 254,698 votes while the APC got 254,345 votes.
