The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the death of a man identified only as Nelson, in a popular hotel, Treasure Land, in Ovwian, Udu Council area of the state.
Nelson, a mobile phone software marketer, who specialized in downloading applications on mobile phones, had allegedly demanded sex from a female customer who could not pay for the service he rendered to her.
He demanded sex from the lady, Obiogu Helen, in an agreement they both allegedly tagged ‘pay in kind.’
According to reports, Helen had gone to purchase the mobile phone from the deceased’s shop located at a popular Robinson Plaza along Deco road in Warri South.
Helen was short of N5,000 to make complete payment for the purchase and had pleaded with the late Nelson to let her go and come back another day to complete the payment but he had refused and insisted she met him in a hotel to pay in kind.
It was gathered that she eventually went to the hotel and Nelson sent her to buy drinks.
It was in the course of sipping the drink that Nelson slowly died.
Reports have, however, alleged that Helen could have poisoned Nelson’s drink which eventually led to his death.
When staff and sympathizers at the hotel got wind of the incident, Helen was arrested after they noticed she was crying and was in a haste to leave the premises.
Confirming the incident on Saturday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Celestina Kalu, said the incident happened on Thursday last week at about 15.30 hours.
According to the PPRO: “One Gordon Tone, the manager of Treasure Land Hotel, reported that one Nelson (male) lodged in his hotel along with his female friend.
“We visited the scene of the crime and no mark of violence seen. Nelson, a single father of two, was found dead in his hotel room by 14.55hours.
“The suspect, Helen Obiogu, of Ovwian town, has been arrested and detained.
“The corpse has been removed and deposited at Noble Hospital mortuary for autopsy.”
