A catholic priest identified as Reverend Father Christian Amusuo, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police for shooting his assistant after an argument.
The priest who is currently serving at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, Eziama-Osuama, in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, was arrested on July 4th, 2017 by Officers from the State’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.
According to Punch, Father Amusuo shot the victim, his assistant and fellow priest, Reverend Father Precious on June 23rd, 2017 after a ” heated argument following weeks of acrimony between them”.
The paper further revealed that a source said the two priests have not been in good terms for a very long time.
“The shooting was a last minute resort by the parish priest to decisively deal with his assistant, who he allegedly accused of being disobedient and flouting his orders.
“We learnt that in a fit of anger, Rev Father Amusuo went into his room and brought out his gun and fired his assistant.
“However, the victim did not die as parish workers came to his rescue,” the source said.
Confirming the sad event, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said the Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, has ordered an investigation into the matter.
“Upon the receipt of the information, the state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, ordered an investigation into the matter. The parish priest is with us and the firearm has been recovered. We are investigating.”
