The issues that come with being an artiste in Nigeria are not only becoming alarming at the wake of each day but they have also ended lots of careers as well as great musical groups in the country.
It has become obvious over time that managing oneself as artiste is way easier than being a part of a group; blood related or otherwise.
There are several instances where music acts in Nigeria kicked off as part of one group or the other whose careers ended even before they started.
Now, in most cases, this has nothing to do with their kind of music or the content they put out to their audience.
Some musical groups in Nigeria started on a very good note with many of them having a massive fan base within a very short time but such groups were short lived due to some unresolved issues among them.
Do you remember the Plantashun boys which consisted of 2Face Idibia, Black Face and Faze back in the 90s? What about the infamous “Remedies” which was made up of Idris Abdulkareem, Tony Tetula and Eldie?
Remember Mo Hits, where D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr. Sid, D’Prince and Kayswitch made up the group?
These are just a few music groups which were as powerful as their loyal audience in the 90s and early 2000s but they have crashed with time.
This brings us to a music duo, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye, popularly known as Psquare, who have been together as a group for more than a decade now and are still waxing strong.
Despite being biologically related, these two had their ups and downs when it comes to finance, contracts, promotions, ideas and more just like every other group in the world. But hey, they still keep it together.
Square who came into limelight in 2001 after they won “Grab Da Mic” singing competition where their first album, “Last Nite” in 2003 was sponsored by Benson & Hedges.
Since that time, this power duo continued to release hits back to back and Nigeria can’t get enough of them.
Currently with 6 albums down and countless awards to their credit, Psquare is a brand in the music industry in Nigeria and across Africa generally.
