Plateau United are the winners of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title.
The Jos based side claimed their first ever league crown following their 2-0 win against 2015/2016 champions Rangers International, on the final matchday of the season in Jos at the Rwang Pam Stadium on Saturday.
Going into the match, Plateau United needed an outright win to cut off second place MFM who were also breathing down their neck.
Youngster Emeka Umeh showed composure inside the box to give Plateau United the lead in the 25th minute while Benjamin Turba made it 2-0 in the 85th minute to send fans in the packed Rwang Pam stadium to wild celebrations.
The victory saw Plateau United finish the season with 66 points, four points above their closest Rival MFM who lost 2-1 to El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri.
Plateau United will now represent Nigeria in next year’s CAF Champions League alongside MFM who finished as runners up. Plateau United also pocketed a prize money of 50 million Naira.
It is the second time a team from Jos will win the League title after Mighty Jet won the title in 1972.
