Nigeria’s hope of winning a gold medal in the Table Tennis event was dashed yesterday as Aruna Quadri succumbed to the firepower of world no.1, Ma Long last night.
The match was played at the Riocetnro Pavilion 3 in the on-going 2016 Olympics.
Quadri has been impressive in the games, beating fifth seeded player Chih-Yuan Chuang in the third round and German Boll Timo in the fourth to make it to the quarter-finals.
The Nigerian started brightly, sharing the first four points with Long 2-2, but from that point on it was the Chinese all the way.
The Chinese superstar was too quick and too sharp for Quadri, beating the Nigerian in four sets.
The match ended 11-4, 11-2, 11-6, 11-7 and was quickly over in just 28 minutes.
