Tennis sisters, Serena and Venus Williams will face each other in a highly anticipated US Open quarterfinal on Tuesday night. Serena outclassed Madison Keys 6-3, 6-3 to setup the quarterfinal meet.
Earlier on Sunday at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Venus dispatched Estonian qualifier Anett Kontaveit 6-2, 6-1 in a fourth-round match in only 50 minutes.
Serena will have to dispatch her elder sister as she inches towards a golden grand slam. A win against Venus will leave Serena only two matches away.
Speaking on her elder sister in an interview granted on-court after her fourth round victory, Serena said, “She’s playing great. I barely had time to get ready for my match because she won so fast. I have to be ready for that.
“At least a Williams will be in the semis, so that’s good,” she added.
The sisters have clashed 26 times with Serena holding 15-11 record. Venus won the sisters’ first encounter at the 1998 Australian Open in straight sets, while Serena won their most recent match, in the fourth round at Wimbledon, also in straight sets.
Serena has won seven of their last eight encounters. The Williams sisters share 28 career grand slams between them.
