Six Years On, Goodluck Jonathan, Other Nigerians Eulogise Late president, Yar’Adua

Immediate past president Goodluck Jonathan has joined other Nigerians to pay glowing tributes to Nigeria’s former president, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua whose term as number one citizen was truncated by illness six years ago.

It would be recalled that Yar’Adua left Nigeria for pericarditis treatment at a clinic in Saudi Arabia. But returned to Nigeria after rumours that he was dead.

On 5 May at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa he was declared dead and according to Islamic rites, he was buried on 6 May in his hometown in Katsina.

Remembering him, Jonathan who was Yar’Adua’s Vice President took to social media to praise the late leader as governor and president.

In a Facebook post, the former president wrote, “Six years ago I lost a dear friend and partner in democracy, peace and progress. President Umaru Musa Yar’adua was a servant leader and a stickler for the rule of law. He may be gone but he is never to be forgotten. I pray for his soul and for him to rest in al Jannah firdaus. GEJ.”
