Some unknown assailants trailed a widow to her farm and strangled her in Chikanda, a border community in the Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The deceased identified as Mrs. Florence Ede, popularly known as Mama do good, was an indigene of Enugu State who was into commercial farming in the community until the unfortunate incident.
Narrating the incident on Sunday, November 27, 2016 a member of the Igbo community in Chikanda, Mr. Mayor Akonobi, said the mother of four had a huge amount of money on her and had wanted to pay some labourers in her farm before the assailants stormed and killed her and carted away with the money.
The source further stated that the robbers also escaped with 12 bags of rice harvested from the victim’s farm.
Akonobi said: “The only guard at the farm when the incident occurred ran away when the assailants attacked her.”
When contacted, the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation has been launched into the crime.
He said: “The guard and the labourers have been arrested. They are helping us with our investigation.”
