According to a statement made by the Spokesperson of The Police Force, ACP Olabisi Kolawole in Abuja on Saturday on the blast that occurred in Kuje and Nyanya areas of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), two suicide bombers, a male and female carried out Friday’s bomb blasts in Abuja.
She quoted the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase as saying that the perpetrators of the act did so in shame of cowardice.
Arase however assured that no matter the aim of the bombers, Nigeria will not accommodate terrorists acts.
He urged Nigerians to be vigilant at all times and report any suspicious persons or objects to the nearest Police Station or any other security agencies for prompt intervention.
The Police Chief also directed the immediate deployment of Police Explosives Ordinance Disposal Units (PEODU) and security men to the scene of Friday night bomb blast in Nyanya in Abuja to prevent further damage.
An eyewitness said he counted 10 to 15 bodies burnt beyond recognition in the blasts which reportedly occurred within space of five minutes.
The first bomb blast occurred at the Jikwoyi park at 9.20pm and second blast at 9.25pm.
Following the blast, the Inspector-General has ordered a stop-and-search operation in and around Abuja.
