The Supreme Court ordered a ‘stay of proceedings’ at the CCT pending the conclusion of an appeal the Senate president brought before it.

Reports say the federal government has also given an undertaking to the Supreme Court not to proceed with the criminal case against the Senate president, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Counsel to the federal government, Mr. Rotimi Jacob, SAN, gave the undertaking after the apex court agreed to expedite the hearing of the case.

Recall that Saraki is facing a 13-count corruption charge at the tribunal, charges he has since denied.

Two High Courts and a Court of Appeal had earlier rejected his request to quash the charges.

Before doing doing so, the court of appeal halted the case briefly to allow it take a decision.

The Supreme Court, however, assured all parties that it would consider the matter speedily.
