There were dramatic scenes at the Headies Awards 2015 held yesterday January 1, 2016 at the Landmark Event Centre, Victoria Island, when Nigerian music heavyweights, Olamide and Donjazzy, openly threw shades at each other over the outcome of the much conveted “Next Rated Award”.
The drama started after Reekado Banks, who is under Mavin Records beat Olamide’s YBNL label mate, Lil Kesh and others to win the prize.
Olamide, who took to the stage with his whole YBNL team when his artist Adekunle Gold won the award for “Best Alternative Act” for his song, Shade, could not hide his feelings about the winner of the “Next Rated” Award.
According to LindaIkeji,
While expressing his appreciation, Lil Kesh prostrated before Olamide who then took the mic and said; “This award belongs to Lil Kesh. Lil Kesh is our own Next Rated artist. F**k that shit! The streets ti take over. Every f**king single was a hit back to back. From lyrically to Shoki to Efejoku. Ko ni dafun Iya anybody”, he then threw the mic down and they all walked off the stage.
Don Jazzy who won the “Lifetime Achievement Award” responded to Olamides rant while taking his award.
He said “Egbon Olamide, if you want the car, come and take it.” (Next Rated win comes with a car).
Olamide later took to twitter to finish what he had already started with Don Jazzy.
