The fact that the 2015 summer transfer window has drawn to a close is no news, what is however news is the fact that a whole lot of speculations around some major deals football buffs expected to materialize never saw the light of day.

THE SHHET.NG profiles Top 5 transfer rumours or gossips that went awry due to one reason or the other.

John Stones- Everton

This young English centre-back was rumoured to be heading to Premiership Champions, Chelsea but Everton made sure the young lad remained at Goodison park for at least January, when the transfer window will reopen again.

With several bids from Chelsea and Stones even issuing a transfer request, made many football fans to conclude it was a done deal. But today, Chelsea looked elsewhere and hopes to fight another day.

David De Gea, Manchester United

There is no transfer speculation that was riddled with bickering and bad blood as much as the purported transfer of Spanish goalkeeper, David De Gea to the Santiago Bernabau. It is a given, De Gea was practically done with Manchester United, hence was in perfect mood to embrace the interest from Real Madrid. But Manchester United was not in tune with this reality hence, they scuttle every effort of the Gallaticos. As at the last count, both clubs are still trading blames concerning the botched transfer of De Gea.

Paul Pogba, Juventus

Midfield maestro, Paul Pogba looked likely to join the likes of Carlos Tevez and Arturo Vidal to exit, Italian Serie A Champions, Juventus. Chelsea wanted the midfield talisman badly, but Juventus were in no mood to let their most prized-asset depart for Chelsea.

And with Premiership side, Chelsea even biding over $80 million, tempting enough to cart away Pogba, but hurray to Juventus fans, Frenchman, Paul Pogba is still in Turin.

Karim Benzema, Real Madrid

Yea right, Arsenal bidding for Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema? Doesn’t Wenger always want players, and yet makes no official bid? We are all used to the antics of the Frenchman. With Real Madrid not having any notable goal poacher of Benzema’s caliber, there was no way Bemzema was going to put on the colours of Arsenal, couple with Wenger’s lackadaisical attitude in the transfer Market.

Saido Berahino, West Brom

Oh yes, this has to come in, right?

English international, Saido Berahino issued a transfer request and according to West Brom officials he was behaving strangely following interest from Tottenham Hotspurs.

Meanwhile, West Brom Manager, Tony Pulis ensured Berahino remained on the bench pending the eventual ouster of Berhino to Spurs. This made many tongues to start speculating that the young English international was on his way to White Hart Lane. And just yesterday Berahino took to twitter to vent his anger, declaring he won’t play for the Albions again.
