We Are Staunchly Behind Jonathan – APGA Denies Endorsing Buhari

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has come out to deny the allegations earlier this week that the party was reconsidering its earlier stance to endorse of Pres. Goodluck Jonathan for a second term.

According to the party, it has never shifted its support to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and has promised to launch its nationwide campaign in the weeks ahead to showcase its strong support for the president.

Earlier in the week, the Lagos state APGA chairman, Campbell Umeh-Nzekwe, had said that the momentum presently was with Buhari and hence the party ought to reconsider its position on the endorsement of Pres. Jonathan.

The APGA position was contained in a statement issued yesterday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Okwukwe Ibiam.

Here’s what APGA said:

“We, at the All Progressives Grand Alliance {APGA}, strongly stand by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. We dissociate ourselves from any publication, or publications associating our great party to the All Progressives Congress {APC} or its representatives in the forthcoming general election.

“We will also like to add that Mr. Campbell Umeh-Nzekwe is not a Special Adviser to the National Chairman, and was never elected to any position of consequence to speak on behalf of the APGA anywhere, or its representatives. Mr. Campbell Umeh-Nzekwe we believe, was reflecting his rather erroneous individual opinion. He may be well-advised to keep them to himself.”

He said that APGA would not relent in its support for Pres. Jonathan because “Jonathan assures the future and continued freedom of Nigerians to domicile in a secure and more relaxed Nigeria, where all are assured of a fair treatment across the landscape, the citizenry and the administration, irrespective of culture, ethnicity and religion.

“The APGA stands by a government looking to propagate the ideals for the development of our Nigerian brothers and sisters, because at APGA, we stand strong for advancing the welfare of our electorate. The APGA, Nigeria stands with President Goodluck Jonathan.”
