The annual Microsoft student technology competition, “Imagine Cup”, which brings young innovators from across the world, is currently holding it’s 2016 edition in Seattle-Washington, United States of America.
Representing Nigeria at the event are a group of creative young minds from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ayodele Obasegun, Victor Shoaga, Blessing Oyatope and Babatunde Otaru, who presented “Humane Solution” for virtually impaired Africans, targeting 10million people from the continent.
Though team Humane Nigeria did not make it through the first three positions in the ongoing competition, it was nominated for “Ability Award” on Wednesday, July 27th, 2016. This makes Nigeria to be among the 8 teams out 35 others to present it’s project to Microsoft. This is definitely a big feat for Nigeria in terms of software and technology innovation generally.
According to Vanguard, Ayodele Obasegun while explaining how beneficial the Humane solution will be to Africa, said:
About 285 million virtually impaired people living around the world, 3.5 percent of the figure resides in Africa. Assuring that they will use the solution to solve this problem, he explained that Humane platform allows the Windows Smart Phone easily accessible to the visually impaired. With the solution, the Visually impaired could surf the web, dial numbers, send messages, receive notifications, play music, interact with their environment using their Windows 8 Mobile Smart Phone.
Microsoft Imagine Cup competition rounds off today.
